Clean drinking water is critical to human life. A lack of clean water can cause a host of problems; and yet, according to the United Nations, 2.2 billion people don’t have access to safely managed drinking water. Simple access to clean water for cooking, cleaning and drinking can easily prevent diseases caused by unsafe water conditions.
There are many nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping with water purification and water well projects around the world. These organizations have put together plans to increase water safety, working daily to address this vital need.
Lone Star Drills water well drilling rigs offer a durable, portable solution to make new wells possible in even the most remote areas. Our passion for clean water runs deep and led to the creation of Lone Star Drills.
Providing Access to Water
Harry Westmoreland, developer of the first Lone Star Drills water well rig, cofounded a nonprofit dedicated to bringing community-based water solutions to developing countries. He recognized the operational challenges and portability needs that come with drilling in underdeveloped areas and that became the driving force behind our water well drills. Since 1991, we’ve been building water well drill rigs that are highly maneuverable, easy to operate and capable of digging through tough soil in remote areas around the world.
Our experts have worked with water well drilling organizations to create rigs capable of drilling through a variety of soil conditions. For example, we developed the LS400T+ when a customer requested a drill capable of drilling through hardened lava with basketball-sized or larger boulders. The 3.5-ton drill is capable of 9,000 pounds of push-down force and can dig to 400-foot depths.
We also have smaller water well drilling rigs, like the LS100 mechanical rig, that can be completely packaged in a 91-by-24-by-30-inch crate for transportation around the world. With a drilling depth of 100 feet with a 6-inch borehole diameter, we designed this drill specifically for water well drilling in developing nations.
Seeking Solutions
Today, Lone Star Drills water well drills are being used in countries across the globe, including Ghana, Haiti, Nigeria, Tanzania and more. Members of our team have visited water well drilling sites to continue to understand the needs and challenges of these projects so we can continue to enhance our solutions. Many of our drills were designed through collaborations between our experts and the organizations who are doing this important work.
